So we have been very busy preparing the various paper works and creative hands on deck for our new place and space. Many creative creatures have expressed interest and the date for open day site inspection is getting closer. We think it may be around the middle of June. As with all things legal and technical, a wide berth must be given for such things (so our solicitor tells us…)

Ironically as artist run spaces become both scarce, and novel in the mainstream media, artist are finding themselves squeezed by economic imperatives and the hand to mouth of making all the ends meet. How can we stay afloat with the social fabric that regulates our existence and maintain the lofty metaphysical heights that instantiate our practice? Ahh…yes politics. Our inevitably pull to the machinations of socio-economic organisation. And why can’t we have a sway with the way things are? Why can’t we create the space in the likeness of our preferred most realistic happy modus operandi…..??

Art workers are vital elements in the social fabric of the city and contribute much to the well being and good ‘living’ of the city. Frequently however, art workers are shoved aside in the quest for developers dollars, bland concrete medium density housing and creeping rents. Bill and George is a new creative industry studio complex which has emerged in response to the loss of artist run spaces in the city. This new endeavour wants to make friends with its neighbourhood and the people in the community whose lives are enhanced by the presence of creative works in their precinct. Artists are vital to the well being of the city. And they need space and collaborative forward thinking visions to make it possible for them to live here. 12 square metres of space in an inner city warehouse in Sydney for $325 per month. (electricity/water/wireless internet included) You may work in a small team and require more space; you might be part time and want to share with another; or maybe you are a performance artist and want access to a rehearsal space – Whatever!

Expressions of interest are sought for SERIOUSLY CREATIVE WORKERS who want to situate their practice in a community of likeminded while maintaining an individual practice which is professional and progressive.
